About Me

My beautiful Pomeranian mixed Shih Tzu excited to show off her new groomed haircut.

Who am I:
My name is Tonya Jean Schettner, I currently live in Oakdale, MN part time and the other time in Apple Valley, MN. In 2001 I had a severe brain stem stroke that limits some mobility some days but I continue to be thankful for what I can do each and every day. Since the stroke I became an owner of a pug, eventually then 2 (similar to the picture above, one black and one fawn). They were comedians getting me through days of illness, a divorce, moving multiple times, late nights studying for tests. I no longer have them (they have crossed the rainbow bridge). I now have an amazing boyfriend who supports me in this decision, it's because of that breed the dream of an Indoor Dog Park lives on in their honor.

Mission:

I will provide a safe, secure, climate-controlled location allowing all breeds and their humans to exercise, bond and socialize together on a daily basis. This isn't going to be like other "play dates" occurring once a week, or "meetups" happening once a month or even doggy daycare's that board. You will not be able to board your dog here, there are many other great businesses that do that. This will be a place where a person and their dog can bond with others that have the same passion (loving dogs) that brought you together, to build the friendship, and companionship that people and dogs need. This will be open during day hours and into the night hours, and every weekend allowing you the time to play whether it's cold, rainy, snowy, windy or even if it is beautiful outside. There are many people that have therapy dogs for their disabilities, people that live in apartments, town-homes or in an area where the yards cannot be fenced - this will be a handicap accessible location, on flat surface providing an affordable way to play anytime with your dog. This will be a down to earth, wholesome environment that everyone in the family can enjoy and feel good visiting. This will also be a place for rescues to do meet and greets with possible future fur-ever families.

I have been saving money to open this exciting new business of a full time dog playground in Minnesota (100% of the sales from my events helps). The location has yet to be determined but I have really been going back to the Richfield location.  This is NOT something to jump into since it is a new concept, there is a lot of research and money that will be involved. If you have any questions or ideas please email me at barknhound@gmail.com.
